The elapsed-hours field is central to this BAC calculation. The formula subtracts 0.015 × H, where H is the number of hours since the first drink. In the calculator, the estimated BAC is never allowed below zero, and the displayed time to 0.00 BAC is the current calculated BAC divided by 0.015.

Only elapsed time reduces the number in this model. Coffee, cold showers, food after drinking, and energy drinks do not change the formula’s alcohol-elimination rate. Because real absorption and metabolism vary, the displayed time to zero is an approximation, not a promise that a person is unimpaired or legally able to drive at that time.
